Flex Pass

Guarantee you or your group is on the ABA priority list for the entire length of your stay, but only pay for the amount of days you want to fly. By booking a Flex Pass in advance, you can feel secure in knowing that your crew will be one of the first groups into the field on the bluebird days, but still allows for built-in weather days or rest days during the course of your stay. Most heliskiing companies require minimum stays and all-inclusive package pricing that can easily start in the tens of thousands of dollars. ABA is the only operation that allows you to create an itinerary that is customized for you and your group.

Private Helicopter

Private Helicopter packages offer the ability to ski whenever and wherever you wish. Putting together a like-minded group not only allows for the ultimate Alaskan heliskiing experience, it can actually equate to spending less money per run if your crew is efficient with its heli time. ABA suggests groups of eight to twelve people per private helicopter, but you may bring as many or few as you wish (it is your helicopter after all). For special Film Crew Pricing please contact us.

Hotel Properties in Valdez

Located twenty-nine miles from ABA’s base area, Valdez, AK is situated on the Prince William Sound and is surrounded by towering mountains and hanging glaciers in nearly every direction. Alaska Backcountry Adventures partners with the Mountain Sky Hotel to offer well appointed accommodations conveniently located within walking distance to downtown Valdez and the picturesque small boat harbor. Guests can take advantage of a daily roundtrip shuttle to the top of Thompson Pass geared around full day flight times for $10 per person per ride.

The RV Approach to AK.

For many of the crews that return to ABA year after year, the RV ranks high on the list of recommended gear for the ultimate AK experience. Not only does the RV approach allow for optimum flexibility in your itinerary when responding to weather, it truly is the most affordable, comfortable option for a group of four to travel around Alaska (and four people is the magic number that fit inside a helicopter). Once parked atop Thompson Pass, the RV turns into a hotel, kitchen, bar, dance club, changing room and gear locker all in one handy location only steps away from the helicopter. No wonder motorhomes are the preferred vehicle choice of discriminating rockstars worldwide!

Keep in mind that due to freezing concerns, RV rental companies do not allow the water or septic tanks to be used in the winter. This means no working shower or toilet in the RV (with a little retrofitting, the shower does make for a nice ski locker). Showers and restrooms are available at multiple locations near Thompson Pass and out houses are available at our base area. Plastic jugs work well for water storage and the kitchens are fully functional. ABA is working on installing RV hookups for the 2012 season; please contact us for pricing and availability in February. There is no charge for regular RV parking; in fact, it is highly encouraged and the views of the Worthington Glacier and surrounding Chugach peaks are hard to beat.
